Naming The Lost

This is a Workshop in which the participants will build flowers from recycled materials that will be woven into a fence wall at St. Marks on the Bowery Church from Friday October 27 through Sunday October 29. The wall is a memorial to those lost to Covid. It is also a wall of remembrance to the years that those of us survived the Pandemic and about what we lost or possibly gained at this time. Everybody globally was affected by this. The making of flowers are memorials to those we lost and symbols of life that continues. There will also be sewn hearts that memories and drawings can be recorded on that will also be part of the woven tapestry and ribbons that names can be added to that will be interspersed with the flowers and hearts.

Naming The Lost Memorials, Mano a Mano, City Lore, and Great Small Works, with a grant from the Mellon Foundation, are at work on a public art COVID-19 memorial that will be on view at St. Mark’s Church-in-the-Bowery (131 E 10th St, New York, NY 10003) during Mano a Mano’s annual Día de Muertos gathering. This year’s memorial features artwork created by community partners Inside Change, Parole Preparation Project, and Oye Group. The public is invited to view the memorial and participate in the event from Friday, October 27 through Sunday, October 29 from 12 PM - 5 PM. The event is free, but registration is required.
